Optimisation for the Holidays

Christmas is less than two months away and as you know many people will begin to look for bargains in the shopping world.  If you want to get out ahead of the competition online you will probably want to get a head start on optimising your site.  With the recent economic decline you can bet many consumers will be looking for the best bargains and lowest prices they can find online.

Tip one is to use 301 redirect on product pages from 2008.  If you have updated your site and are no longer using pages from the 2008 holiday season make sure they have a redirect.  The consumer may have bookmarked this old page to return for the next year.  If it doesn’t exist you will lose a customer.

Your policy pages will need new content.  Have you looked at the return policy, about us, and other information pages recently?  New pages always help with rankings, but the customer will also want to know the information is accurate and up to date.

Gift links are a great way to get people interested in your site.  By using gift lists for her, him, or children you can help your customer from the homepage find what they are really looking for.  It also gives you another link on your site.

The last thing you should do is look to the keyword optimisation for search engine optimisation.  Add holiday keywords that will get the attention of shoppers.  There are numerous keywords you can use in titles, descriptions, blogs, etc.
